Exhibit is up September 30th, to January 30th, 2023
Like many children, growing up, I always wanted the ability to fly. The freedom to go as far or as high as I wanted, seemingly, without restriction. As I got older, I took an interest in birds for that reason. Naturally, that interest in birds and flying translated into my artwork. As an artist today, I often use birds as a representation of “SELF”.
This exhibition focuses on birds that can be observed within the north Texas area. All the birds were referenced from photographs which I took within the Wichita falls area. Many of these birds have adapted to life in an unnatural/foreign environment. Some thrive, while others struggle to navigate new environments. The ability to adapt and to find new and unusual means of survival alongside humans, is a skill that birds across the world need to survive. As an immigrant, much of my experience here in Texas has been new and unusual to me. Navigation in an unfamiliar environment, interacting with unfamiliar people and adapting to an unfamiliar lifestyle.
